Business Festival education sector shows why Coventry & Warwickshire is ‘knowledge capital of the UK’

Coventry and Warwickshire’s education sector will get a boost this November as leading education, business and public sector organisations unite to stage a variety of free, education-themed events for businesses.

 

The events which aim to stimulate engagement between businesses and academia, form part of the first Coventry & Warwickshire Business Festival runningfrom Monday 20 November to Friday 1 December.

 

Developed by the Coventry & Warwickshire Growth Hub and the Coventry & Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), and supported by headline partner, the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), the Business Festival encompasses everything from conferences, seminars, workshops, trade shows to exhibitions, award ceremonies and recruitment fairs. There are 114 events taking place across many different industries, all put on by business or organisations to encourage business growth.

 

Coventry and Warwickshire is renowned for its academic excellence and outstanding reputation for innovation and product development in many fields, particularly advanced manufacturing and engineering.

 

With a strong FE sector which includes colleges and private training providers and54,000 students at the area’s two first-class universities, Warwick and Coventry, there is a strong pipeline of exceptional talent with strengths in many disciplines, being released into the workforce each year.

 

Both Coventry University and the University of Warwick are Business Festival partners and are running a number of inspiring events over the fortnight. These encompass opportunities to meet the different departments and see the variety of activities and services on offer at the University of Warwick. High Value Manufacturing catapult, the Warwick Manufacturing Group based at the University also is showing how businesses can access its state-of-the-art facilities, knowledge and product development support.  

 

On 1 December, Coventry University is inviting contractors, architects, project managers and quantity surveyors to discover its exciting development and expansion plans over the next few years.

 

Other education events in the Festival include ‘Collaborate to Train Coventry and Warwickshire’ on 24 November run by the Warwickshire College Group. This ‘drop-in’ day will bring education partners together to showcase the range of workforce and training services available in the area, whilst meeting local businesses with to discuss how to ensure Coventry and Warwickshire’s education and training activities are business-led, fit-for-purpose and meet the needs of local employers.

 

The Business Festival will also see the region’s first Careers Speed Networking Event for schools on 29 November, where over 400 students will meet a wide range of local employers to discover potential careers options available to them and gain a better understanding of the current job market.

 

Marion Plant, principal and chief executive of North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College and chief executive of the Midland Academies Trust is the Business Festival sector lead for education. She said, "The provision of relevant, high quality skills training through local universities, further education colleges and training providers is an absolute ‘game changer’ in respect of driving up productivity and prosperity within Coventry and Warwickshire.

 

“This area is home to outstanding research and development facilities and is truly leading the way in terms of innovation and knowledge stemming from the exceptional universities and vast range of spin-out businesses located here.

 

“The Business Festival will showcase the cutting-edge university knowledge, support, research and development facilities, as well as looking at ways businesses can access the outstanding emerging talent and potential new employees.”

 

The vast majority of events in the Business Festival are free and open to absolutely anyone in the world to attend.
