The region considers itself to be the home of the automotive industry in the UK, with 34,000 AME jobs accounting for 10 percent of the region's working people. Globally recognised brands like Jaguar Land Rover, Geely London Taxi Company and Tata and Aston Martin continue to invest in the region due to the world class R&D and innovation facilities.
The region is at the forefront of autonomous vehicles and driverless technology and there is ground-breaking connected vehicle technology and infrastructure being developed and trialled in Coventry & Warwickshire.
The 2018 sector lead is David Keene, Founder and CEO of RDM Group & Aurrigo. David founded RDM Group in 1993 and now has 8 companies with a combined turnover of more than £25m, employing approximately 135 people across locations in the UK, France, Australia, USA and now Canada. In 2016 he was awarded visiting Professor status at Coventry University in Autonomous Vehicles and is regularly interviewed as an authority on automotive design, manufacturing and autonomous technology. David sits on the board of the UK Automotive Council, which sets automotive policy and strategy in the UK and is an engineer at heart, passionate about new technology, product development and manufacturing. His company, Aurrigo, is spearheading the design, development and manufacture of low speed autonomous pods, in first/last mile solutions, for both public and logistics applications.
